The Christmas Caper- A Poem

Guys.
The biggest stealer of holiday cheer
Is the conniving Christmas Caper
If she wants diamonds, rocks of Debeers
And you give her paper
Or plastic or maybe a shiny new blender
Not quite what she had in mind
But you resorted to what was on sale
Because you ran out of time

So don’t forget, you men of the world
That while your lady loves toe socks
Keep that cheer in your bride, your girl
And surprise her with shiny rocks

If you are lost about where to start
And the web is tangled and frustrating
Empty that online shopping cart
Your local jeweler is waiting

The Real Deal

I had the pleasure of exploring the Nashville Flea Market a few weekends ago.  I wasn’t in the market for anything particular, but I was open for a deal.  It turns out that is what everyone goes to a flea market for… a deal.  I casually browsed and tried to stay looking generally disinterested.  Some vendors tried to rope me in with 1/2 price deals and rural sales pitches.  Easy to say no when you aren’t looking.

I did spend some time browsing the jewelry and had a small epiphany… there’s no real deal.  People know what they have and have a general idea of what it is worth.  Back in the day, before my time, a gold ring was worth what someone would pay for it.  Now the price is negotiated off of what a similar item just sold for on ebay.  The internet opened up a wealth of information… and unfortunately some false confidence.

Most people know enough to be dangerous.  The ring above would seem like a great deal.  It is listed as 14k gold with diamonds.  The shopper with their smart phone can quickly look up similar items and find the price is a great deal.  The picture above is a 14k gold ring with diamond accents and a cz in the center.  To define cz for you, it is a 14k gold ring with diamond accents and NOTHING in the center.

So what’s the real deal?  Know who you’re buying from to know what you’re getting.  The real deal is to know your mechanic and not just which part needs to be installed.  You probably can find a great deal at a flea market, but use a cautious eye, and if you aren’t sure, use your jeweler.

Everything’s Rosie

It’s true that our focus has turned from flowers to falling leaves.  From posies to pumpkins.  As we say “Bye Bye” to Birdies, in the jewelry industry we are saying hello! to roses.
If you’re friends with Leann Rimes then you know celebs are becoming very interested in rose gold.  The color is flattering, unique, and accentuates many stones.  With the right diamond setting, a rose gold engagement ring can be beautiful.

This is a picture of a beautiful rose gold ring with 1.12 ct champagne and white diamonds.  Just one fine example of the beauty of rose gold.  As the seasons change, grab your pumpkin spice latte and say goodbye to all the flowers, except rose!
